Wednesday, 09 September 2015 11:58

The Alta Murgia National Park and the Research Centre for Biodiversity CeRB organised from 14th to 18th September the IIIaedition of the Summer School"Practical Course on Study Methodologies and Wolf Census in Alta Murgia National Park" , an actual school amidst nature where the theme this year will be the study and a census of the species of greatest interest and conservation and management value found in the Park, the wolf.  The course will be attended by 15 students from all over Italy, who, through theoretical and practical lessons, will deepen their knowledge in the field of conservation and protection of this important species at the top of the food chain. In particular, students will learn to collect data in the field, such as the recognition of indirect traces (footprints, remains of predation, etc.), to identify and collect faecal samples for genetic analysis and to install photo-traps to capture and study predators in the wild.

The 'indoor' educational activities will take place at the premises of the "Torre dei Guardiani" Park Visitor Centre while the external ones will be held at several sites of the Alta Murgia National Park.
The controversial topic of assessment of damage from predation will also be addressed and how it can be prevented through the adoption of specific techniques and strategies, already put in place by the Park Authority, designed to protect livestock.
